Fantasy Cruises operates a single ship (MV Island Spirit) in Alaska. The ship is small - only 32 passengers. The owners are also the captain and first mate so they are very involved in making sure passengers are happy. They sail several different inside passage routes that vary from 8 to 14 nights.
On Board Experience - the Island Spirit is capable of running off battery power at night which means that when you are anchored in a quiet cove, there is no engine or generator noise to break the tranquility. There is a hosted cocktail hour before dinner at the end of each day and a choice of wine is served with dinner. There is a certified Alaska naturalist on board to make sure you get all the information about the animals in the area you are visiting. Food is good and plentiful and features local ingredients whenever possible.
The Ship - all 16 cabins have large windows. Cabins are small but comfortable. Each has a private bath. Access to the cabins is from an interior hallway. There are sitting areas on the deck both fore and aft. In addition to the dining room there is a comfortable lounge.
The Cost - Fantasy Cruises has some of the lowest fares for small ships in Alaska at about $550 per person per night. Even more special is their set aside of two cabins for singles with no single supplement.
The Itineraries - they specialize in Southeast Alaska and frequent many ports that bigger ships can't visit. They do have a few sailings from Seattle but most often their itineraries are round trip Juneau or between Juneau, Sitka, and Petersburg. Examples are:
