River Barge Excursion Lines

R/B River Explorer

Why a Barge?

Our mode of travel is different. While travel magazines have extolled the virtues of luxurious European river cruises and barge tours for years, this mode of travel is new to America. River pilots know that a barge is the most versatile, safe and stable craft that can ply the river. In fact, America's locks and dams have all been designed with the barge in mind.

Designed for adventure, but with your comfort and safety in mind, the R/B River Explorer is the first and only hotel barge on these rivers. You'll settle into this type of travel quickly, but appreciate its unhurried pace. After all, this much fun is easy to get accustomed to. In fact, some say it sparks a sense of adventure in men, women and children. That's why we say the R/B River Explorer is more than a barge. It's like a floating community of people who share your interest in exploration. That's why we've included features and opportunities that aren't offered on any other craft in the world.

The vessel is made from two barges, the La Salle and the De Soto. The staterooms are situated on the La Salle, while the public facilities are located on the De Soto. The tow is propelled by a powerful towboat, the Miss Nari. The Miss Nari has quite a history, which you'll learn about when you come aboard. It is the only river towboat in America with Z Peller 360° propulsion units, which is special in that it can completely turn the craft in place.

We're sure that you'll be impressed by what a smooth ride it is; the sensation of gliding through the water is a wonderful experience that you'll truly appreciate. Barging Through America® is a great way to travel!

All staterooms have big picture windows that open and Platinum Deck rooms have a balcony. Guests have a choice of twin or super queen beds, and all staterooms feature individual AC/heat, TV, VCR, mini-fridge, phone and much more!
