Day 1 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Day 4 - Salvador de Bahia, Brazil
Spanish and African influences abound in this city, famous for its 365 colonial churches, rainbow-tinted houses, and colorful markets. Explore Fort de Sao Marcelo for a glimpse of Bahia's fascinating past. Discerning palates will appreciate the luscious flavors of Africa and Brazil blended in local restaurants.

Day 6 - Recife, Brazil
Jutting into the Atlantic on Brazil's broad eastern shoulder, Recife is closer to Africa than to some other parts of its own country. Visit the nearby Town of Olinda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, filled with photogenic colonial churches, cobbled squares and centuries of charm.

Day 7 - Natal, Brazil

The mighty Amazon is the main artery of transport for the wealth of forest products from Brazil’s interior. You’ll likely see many vessels of all types coming and going during the day and night.

Day 11 - Alter do Chao, Brazil
Many of the Amazonian region’s wonders are on view in this village. Visit the Center for the Preservation of Wildlife, where indigenous animals and birds are rehabilitated. Or walk through the Santa Lucia Arboretum, marveling at over 200 species of native trees and plants.

Day 13 - Anavilhanas Archipelago, Brazil

Day 14 - Manaus, Brazil
The capital of Brazil’s Amazonas state, Manaus is the gateway to the riches of the great Amazon Basin forest and the key trading city for goods coming downriver and those flowing up from the coast. It holds many reminders of its boom-and-bust history, including the lavish Opera House which attracted the stars of music and theater from Europe and America a hundred years ago. Here. Too, you can witness the Meeting of the Waters, where the black, jungle-stained Rio Negro flows alongside the mud-brown Solimoes until the two waters finally mix to join the Amazon.
